With more than 850
certified accommodations in 29 countries, we will continue to ensure the principles of
tourism sustainability within the framework of European regulations.
Recently,
have appeared in various media in reference to the European Directive
2024/825, which prohibits sustainability seals or labels that are not
based on a third-party audited certification system.
As is well known,
European directives are not mandatory rules, but
set targets that all EU member states must comply with or
design reference frameworks, always for the different countries to develop
their national rules in this regard. The European Directive 2024/825 is not new,
has been in force since March 2024, but has not yet been transposed
into a national standard, which will have to happen until September 2026.
With this in mind, we would like to remind our customers that the
Bioscore Sustainability Certification is based on a certification system and relies on
a third party audit.
Therefore,
is a brand that offers total guarantee and reliability, accepted by
different international organizations such as Travalyst; recognized by
booking engines such as Booking.com, Destinia and Google; admitted in programs of
sustainability certification of international chains such as Marriott (with
all its brands) and validated by professional associations such as HOSBEC and
Global Hotel Alliance (GHA) in its Discovery’s Green Collection program, among
others. The numbers speak for themselves, with more than 850
certified accommodations in 29 countries.
On the other hand,
both the Bioscore standard and the information regarding the
certification scheme are public and can be consulted on our website,
in compliance with the principle of transparency that has always guided us.
For both the
development of the standard and its revision, stakeholders such as industry associations, booking engines, major international hotel chains and national chains
have been consulted.
Currently,
all companies holding certifications or seals in the field of
sustainability are expectant and preparing to adapt to the new
situation that will be established within the framework of the provisions of the European Directive
2024/825.
In this sense,
Bioscore has taken this aspect into account in the development of its
certification scheme and is taking the necessary measures to, when the time comes and
if necessary, make the appropriate changes to continue
offering its customers all the guarantees and confidence.
We believe that
the new regulation will be positive and will help consumers in their decision making
when purchasing a product or contracting a service, counting
with truthful and reliable information, free of unethical practices such as
greenwashing or “eco-imposture”.
Likewise,
is in favor of a free market, free of monopolies, where public and private companies
can develop their activities and offer their products and
services under equal conditions, guaranteeing consumers their freedom
to choose and access to a varied and quality offer.
It is sad to see
how some organizations, both national and international,
take advantage of moments of uncertainty to generate distrust in the
sector, which distances us from achieving the global goals set by
the UN in the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs.
A plural
offer, as long as it is operated ethically and in compliance with current legislation, only
can lead to an increase in the number of accommodations that integrate
sustainability in their corporate strategy and operational management, which in the long run will help us all to row in the same direction so that the
sector contributes to the fight against climate change.
