WHAT IS THE CARBON FOOTPRINT?
The carbon footprint represents the total greenhouse gas emissions, both direct and indirect, generated by individuals, organizations, events or products. These emissions, expressed in tons of CO2 equivalent (CO2eq), accumulate in the atmosphere and are one of the main causes of climate change.
WHAT IS CARBON OFFSETTING?
Carbon offsetting consists of implementing actions to balance CO2 emissions, although it is essential to the objectives of the Paris Agreement 2015, its international implementation faces challenges.
Tourism organizations can significantly reduce their carbon footprint by activating a few main mechanisms, the most important being the reduction of their CO2 emissions along their entire value chain, from procurement and production to distribution, the energy sources used and the way they promote their products and services.

The tourist accommodation sector has the opportunity to improve the environmental balance of tourism activity, promote sustainable values, encourage sustainable tourism and recognize the most committed lodgings with these practices.
