use of the Bioscore scoring software based on the Blue Leaf standard of
sustainable engineering and water management that takes into account ESG criteria. - It is a project developed in collaboration between the technology company
Bioscore and the engineering firm The Fun Lab.
Valencia, September 20, 2023
The Blue Leaf Bioscore Certification is the first model of sustainability certification for outdoor spaces, swimming pools and green areas for all those tourist and sports complexes that wish to give the appropriate response to the current challenges in terms of environmental impact, as well as to solve the need for water efficiency in their establishments, looking to the future and in accordance with the values of society.
This is a pioneering initiative in the market in the field of aquatic area management, as it takes into account ESG criteria, as well as for the sustainable management of the outdoor areas of the establishments, which includes, among other areas, gardens, lighting, noise pollution or treatment of chemicals and waste.
This certification is the result of the collaboration of the engineering firm The Fun Lab and the certification and sustainability company Bioscore, through its technological platform, which has a large implementation in the tourism industry as well as a high scalability, and which goes hand in hand with the Blue Leaf standard, which is the result of a research project developed by The Fun Lab specifically for the purpose of this project.
In parallel to the implementation of the Blue Leaf Bioscore Certification, several pilot tests are being carried out, mainly in tourist establishments of national and international companies such as the accommodations of the Senator hotel group (distributed throughout Spain and the Caribbean), the Hotel Poseidon Resort in Benidorm (Alicante) or the Capfun El Escorial campsite (Madrid), as well as in the Aquopolis water park in Villanueva de la Cañada (Madrid), owned by the Parques Reunidos group.
The Blue Leaf (Leverage for Efficiency in Aquatic Facilities) standard for sustainable architecture and management in outdoor areas of tourist establishments and summer swimming pools for public use is also the first model for the planning and renovation of facilities that brings together best practices for sustainable management in these outdoor areas.
It also consists of a support vehicle for those resorts that wish to integrate sustainability into their strategies and day-to-day activities, by means of an operational guide with various actions and indicators.
“Since we started our business activity in 2020 we have been searching, without success, for the existence of specific standards to implement, in our projects, efficiency and environmental sustainability criteria for outdoor spaces, both for holiday tourist establishments and sports complexes that have swimming pools during the summer season.
Even more so when, in the case of tourist resorts, these facilities have a notably more intensive use during periods of high seasonality and generate a greater impact -water, acoustic, light, etc.- in the municipalities where they are located, which are generally mature holiday destinations with high water stress.“explains Javier Salvador, CEO of The Fun Lab.
Bioscore is a technology company that integrates a sustainability management system for accommodations providing competitiveness through an R&D solution.
With the new project on Blue Leaf Bioscore certification, establishments that begin their certification process will have access on the digital platform to more than 100 indicators that focus, among other aspects, on efficiency, energy and water savings, circular economy, accessibility and the application of technological solutions in each of the areas.
“Bioscore brings the innovation and technology that outdoor spaces, pools and green areas need to build a better future together. We are confident that this partnership will help resorts and sports complexes on their path to sustainability in a simple and digitized way. “; Víctor Monzón, CEO of Bioscore.
When a facility obtains the certification with the corresponding scoring, it has the possibility to complete the process with a personalized technical consultancy service, in order to go one step further in the efficiency and environmental management of its outdoor facilities and aquatic areas, through the development of an implementation plan of short, medium and long term actions.
